Observer Notes:A party of three snowmobilers were high marking an east facing slope southwest of Leidy Lake. Two riders were on the slope when it failed. Once was completely buried. The other was not and the third rider was not in the slide path. The missing rider's sled was partially buried. One rider went for help. The other rider had a shovel and no probe and remained on site. The buried rider and the rider who remained on site did not have avalanche beacons. Search and rescue was contacted at 4:10 PM. Search and rescue volunteers arrived at a nearby helicopter landing zone at about 5:10 PM. By about 5:45 PM those volunteers had traveled from the landing zone and found the buried rider by probing. He was buried uphill of his sled, under 4 feet of avalanche debris in a prone position with his head downhill. He did not survive.
