Observer Notes:A local long-time professional snowmobiler was caught buried and did not survive. The rider in a party of 10 was the first one up a steep slope that leads to a saddle that drops into Dry Canyon from Austin Canyon. He turned downhill before he reached that saddle and was caught in the slide as he descended the slope. Tragically he was fully buried with an avalanche transceiver that was in the off position. The other nine riders quickly conducted a visual and transceiver search of the avalanche debris. His riding companions then probed the debris and found him 2.5 hours later. He did not survive.
